ハートや四角や丸といったシンボルをテキスト表示させているプレイヤーを見掛けたのだが、どうやって表示させれば良いのだろうか？

格好いいよね！
ウルティマ オンライン上の会話や本で利用しているフォントセットはUnicodeとの相性が非常に良いもので、Unicodeの全てとは言わないまでもその大半の文字は扱えるんだ。ロマンス言語圏のほとんどと中国語、日本語、韓国語、そしてハートやダイヤ、箱や線といった素敵なシンボルがあり、コピーアンドペーストを用いて容易にゲーム内で表示させることができるよ！勿論実際の言語の為にウィンドウズのIMEが担っている。
したがって、マシン上にUnicodeフォントセットがあれば文字一覧から好きなシンボルを見つけ出してコピーし、ウルティマ オンライン上でCtrl+Vを押せばペーストできるんだ。
Unicodeフォントセットをまた揃えていない人のために以下のような便利なサイトを見つけたよ。

皆さんが上記サイトへアクセスした際には「00:Basic Latin, Latin1」のページが表示されるはずだが、「26: Misc Symbols」へと移動してみてごらん。様々なシンボルが一覧表示されるだろう。これらの大半がウルティマ オンライン上でも利用可能なんだ！音符が利用できるかどうかは真っ先に確認してみたよ。

The fontset that UO uses for speech and books and whatnot is actually very Unicode friendly. Mind you, it doesn't support the full set of Unicode characters, but it does do quite a few. Pretty much most of the Romanic languages, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hearts, Diamonds, Boxes, Lines, Fun Symbols, and a few other things I can't think of are as easy to do as Copy-Pasting them into the game! (For actual languages of course, the IME in Windows handles it)
So, for instance, if you have a full Unicode font on your system you could go to Charmap and find the symbols you wanted, copy them, and then switch to UO and hit Ctrl-V to paste them in.
If you don't have a full Unicode font installed, I happen to find this site very useful:

For instance, when you load the page you'll be at 00: Basic Latin, Latin 1. So select 26: Misc Symbols from the drop down list. Quite a few of those actually work in the game! Off the top of my head I know most of the musical notes do.
