この度ウルティマ オンラインタウンホールミーティングを開催する機会を得、素晴らしい成果を挙げることができました！昨晩カルフォルニアのレッドウッドシティにあるエレクトロニック・アーツ本社へウルティマ オンラインのプレイヤー、プログラマー、デザイナー、アーティスト、QAチームメンバー、ゲームマスター、コミュニティチームが一堂に介したのです。ウルティマ オンラインの愉しさで満ちた素晴らしい一夜となりました。Binkyの余興で熱狂的なプレイヤー達を歓迎したのち、Darkscribeがプロデューサとしての初仕事として自己紹介をしてくれました。彼はマーケティング部門からどのような経緯でウルティマ オンラインに携わるに至ったかを説明し、販売商品への理解を深めようとプレイし始めたもののたちまちその魅力に熱中してしまったことを語りました。今現在も彼はウルティマ オンラインのプレイを辞めることができずにいますし、ウルティマ オンラインの未来への道を切り開く役目を担う機会を与えられ、興奮で眩暈に襲われる程だったそうです。
ライブチームのリードデザイナーであるMrTactはパブリッシュ40で実現しそうな事柄に関して幾つか説明してくれました。彼は今後数日の間に「Stratics Developer's Corner」を利用して戦闘の変更に関する情報提供をしてくれるそうです。更に彼は今現在開発中のクライアント更新に関しても幾つか言及してくれました。その中には以下のような項目もありました。
1） ターゲットシステムの改良
2） ステータス変化をアイコン表示し影響下にある呪文や特殊能力の効果をプレイヤーへ視覚的に知らせる
3） キャラクターステータス一覧の改良
以上の項目は開発段階に過ぎず、予期せぬ不具合が生じればパブリッシュ40での導入は見送られる可能性もあります。
続いて我々は戦闘関連を主題とする質疑応答を長時間に渡り行いましたが、勿論戦闘以外の話題もありました。この質疑応答で最も注目を受けたのはDarkscribeの言及した騎乗可能な白熊の導入でした。これは将来的な長期報奨としての導入が検討されていますが、あくまで開発の初期段階に過ぎず実際に導入されない可能性もあります。質疑応答を終えたのち、対人戦大会が開催されました。誰もが一歩も譲らぬ戦いを繰り広げましたが、優勝者としてレイクオースティンのBladeがQAチームの対人戦第一人者Seradoと対決する機会を得たのです。この最終戦は長時間に及ぶ接戦でした。互いに強力な呪文を放ち合い、死の直前で回復するという死闘が続いたのです。幾度かの危機を乗り切り最後に立っていたのはSeradoでした。彼は我等QAチームの名誉を守り抜いてくれたのです。
レイクオースティンのBladeには今現在ウルティマ オンライン上でも特別な称号が与えられています。

我々はウルティマ オンラインへの協力を示してくださった方々に感謝致します。そして、次回のタウンホールミーティングで「皆さん」ともお会いしたい。
MrTact, Live Team Lead Designer, explained some of the things that are likely to be seen in Publish 40. He's going to be posting some more information in the Stratics Developer's Corner on the combat changes over the next few days, but he also revealed a few client changes that are in development as well. These changes include: an improved targeting system, "buff/debuff" icon indicators that will let you know when you're under the effect of a spell or ability, and an improved character status sheet. (Note that these changes are still in development, and could be pushed back from Publish 40 if unexpected difficulties arise.)
We then had a lengthy open Q&A session that focused mainly on combat, but other topics were covered as well. One of the highlights during this session was Darkscribe revealing the rideable polar bear that we want to have as a future veteran award. He did note, however, that this is still in the very early stages of development, and may not make it into the game. After the Q&A was wrapped up, the PvP tournament began. After many close battles, the 1st place winner, Blade of Lake Austin, faced off against our reigning in-house PvP champ, Serado from the QA Team. This final battle lasted quite awhile, with both Blade and Serado exchanging heavy hitting spells, and getting off last minute heals a split second before death. After several close calls, it was Serado who emerged from the battle victorious, having successfully defended the honor of our entire team!
Blade of Lake Austin now holds a special in-game title: Blade, the guy who got owned by Serado.

Curious to see the home of Ultima Online? Been wanting to meet members of the UO Team to ask questions and share ideas? Think you're the best PvP'er around and want to prove it once and for all? Like to eat free pizza? Well, here's your chance!
We'll start the evening off with a presentation from the UO Producer, who will share with you some things we've got in store for the future of UO. Follwing that, will be the lengthy Q&A session where you can ask the questions that are on your mind and give us your feedback. After we've had our fill of pizza and soda, we'll random pick 16 players who have entered into the drawing for the PvP tourney, and watch them battle it out in a series of 1-on-1 battles on the big screen to determine who the top dawg really is. So, come to the Redwood City Town Hall Meeting to take advantage of this chance to spend an evening with the UO Team, your fellow players and just have some plain ol' fun.
Oh, did I mention that the PvP tourney winner will face off in a final showdown with our in-house PvP master, Serado? He thinks he's better than you, so we'll see if you've got the stuff it takes to take him out and win everlasting fame in front of your fellow players! We'll also be handing out some really cool Ultima Online: The 8th Age posters (yes, we'll sign them for you!) and a few other random prizes to give away.
